The wild is waiting…
Esme is annoyed and braced for boredom when she’s sent to stay with her gran for the weekend, until she discovers a terrible mistake. Cora, the abandoned kitten Gran found on the Rothiecraig Estate, is in fact a wild lynx kit and she is growing—fast!

Suddenly, Esme find herself on a dangerous mission to rewild Cora, along with Callum Docherty for company, the school’s ‘bad boy’, and Shug, the worst guard dog in the world.

The situation takes a terrifying turn when the children pitch their tents on a bleak Highland moor and hear wolves howling outside…

Reviews

Incredibly powerful and poignant storytelling. https://www.edspire.co.uk/year_2022/04/10/the-rewilders/

There’s excitement all the way in this fast-paced rewilding mission as Esme and Callum take on some important lessons about friendship as they battle to protect and help Cora. This short but stimulating tale based on the rediscovery of nature is aimed at eight- to 12-year-olds but can engage older readers. I was not only able to read it in one sitting but enjoyed every moment, having been pulled into a heartwarming story connecting humanity and the animals of the wild. This gripping and tense read explores the debate about the reintroduction of the Eurasian lynx in Scotland. City Kids Magazine

The Rewilders is an exciting middle grade novel set in the Scottish Highlands. It’s a heartfelt and thoughtful story about two children Esme and Callum. It will open up questions about re-wilding and peer pressure. Highly recommend for 9 to 12 years, who love adventure, care about environment and are looking for something a bit different. https://www.readersthatcare.co.uk/the-rewilders-by-lindsay-littleson/

A terrific book full of tension and plot twists, interwoven with a very satisfying story of self-discovery. https://getkidsintobooks.com/2022/04/08/the-rewilders-by-lindsay-littleson/

This cracking story keeps you turning the pages while cleverly weaving in important and thought provoking issues. The characters are brilliantly drawn. Gran and her friend Sadie are funny and full of mischief and Shug – the worst guard dog in the world – is great fun. Esme, the main character, is complex, struggling with internal and external demons in the form of shame, friendship issues, and bewilderment at the task she is faced with. The author successfully intertwines Esme’s emotional and physical journey, cleverly leading her to a satisfying conclusion. https://www.juliathum.co.uk/the-rewilders

This is a perfect story – either in class or at home – to lead into opportunities for discussions around themes of bullying, friendship, family and environmental sustainability. The Rewilders is a heart-warming, exhilarating and truly unmissable adventure for children of 8+.  https://bookcraic.blog/

The atmospherical writing that Lindsay Littleson has rewarded us with in this book really does enrapture readers imaginations, along with the beautifully detailed scenery, which is stunning to say the very least. I cannot emphasise enough how beautiful this book is, and how rewarding a read it is too. https://samjdthomas.home.blog/2022/03/23/the-rewilders/

An absolute gem of a book… Beautifully written, The Rewilders is a delightful mix of adventure, friendship, and conservation. It is unafraid to touch on difficult topics such as bullying and fostering but does so in such a sympathetic manner. https://www.tippytupps.com/review/books-for-grown-ups/the-rewilders-by-lindsay-littleson-ad/

‘The Rewilders’ is a tense, thought-provoking story about family and finding friendship where you least expect it. But most important of all, it’s about the beautiful wild animals that roam our lands. Our wildlife is threatened by climate change and the ever-evolving changes created by the modern way of life, Lindsay’s fantastic action-packed storyline will encourage much-needed conversations about our planet and every creature that lives on it, human or otherwise, in schools and beyond. https://www.mybookcorner.co.uk/the-rewilders-by-lindsay-littleson/

We follow the story through the eyes and thoughts of Esme and Callum and watching their relationship grow as they must learn to work together is captivating, you become emotionally invested in the unlikely pair which is a real testament to the beautiful writing in this book… The publisher Cranachan has knocked it out of the park again with another talented author – Lindsay Littleson… It’s heartwarming, exciting and really should be on your home or school bookshelf. And for those of you who do judge a book by its cover… look at it! Gorgeous stuff from Anne Glennie. https://stoomio.com/review/the-rewilders-by-lindsay-littleson/

Littleson captures the countryside with its flora and fauna wonderfully (particularly the reintroduced lynxes and wolves), and both Esme and Callum are great characters with layers of complexity and compelling back stories. Esme’s gran and Sadie are nearly as daft as Shug the Dug and provide some excellent comic relief. The theme of the reintroduction of wild animals to Scotland is treated sensitively and with the nuance it deserves, with the understanding that there are a variety of valid viewpoints. The book cracks along at a good pace, with both the main plot of Esme and Callum’s mission and the Scooby Doo subplot providing plenty of excitement.
All in all, a wonderful book that will appeal to anyone with an interest in the natural world. Highly recommended.    John K Fulton
